Jack The Ripper : Prosecutor and Defender !

Last Week ago, my group have been presented in Critical Literacy class about Jack The Ripper cases. We need to choose one from the entire suspect in Jack The Ripper cases and our group choose James Kelly as Jack The Ripper. The group will get a chance to be a prosecutor and the defender of the suspect. My group was prosecuted James Kelly and defend George Chapman.

         Let me share a little background information of James Kelly: An illegitimate son of a single mother and raised by his grandmother, James Kelly entered the upholstery trade early in life.  He married Sarah Brider in 1883, and within a few months she was dead, stabbed in the neck. Kelly was due to be hanged, but at the last minute he was declared to be a paranoid schizophrenic by a doctor from Broadmoor Asylum. He was admitted to Broadmoor later that year. He came to America and killed Carrie Brown in 1891 on Manhattans lower east side. And as he travelled around America he may have killed women not only in New York City but also Georgia and Texas.

The similarity that can be found within James Kelly and the real Jack The Ripper that mostly everyone see without full appearance is that James Kelly killed his wife by stabbing her neck and cutting the throat. It’s quite similar with Jack The Ripper killing style by cutting the throat. His motive by killing his wife is because his wife is a prostitute then he also stated in Journal that he hates prostitute. 

Many people said that James Kelly did not have surgeon skills and not able to taking organs. Plus, he facing a disease and that reason can be the strong evidence why James Kelly is not a Jack The Ripper. In my opinion, a Killer doesn’t need a surgeon skill to commit a murder. For example, an ordinary killer. They do not need to learn or get surgeon skills just to killing people. They can do the murder by his motives. The stronger the motives, the eager they want to kill people. They only need to know where the organs located. Then, if he really facing a dangerous disease that involve mental problem, how can he writing the journal? Just think by yourself before against James Kelly as the Jack The Ripper.
